Five dances:

These five dances are a commission by Josep Castells for the play El Cavaller i els músics de la cort, premiered at the Corral de Comedias in Alcalá de Henares and in Almagro in June 2008.

The play is a show with Mediterranean roots in which almost unpublished legends full of popular wisdom are told.

For this show, I looked for a sonority that suggested the medieval world. The wind quintet, with its rich timbre, seemed to me the most suitable to achieve the desired atmosphere. On the other hand, the Mediterranean airs of the Catalan popular music just shape the spirit of the work.

Although the original version is for wind quintet, I have made other versions of El Cavaller… with suitable formations to transmit the popular and danceable spirit that the work demands. They are versions for tenora and piano, cello and piano, piano four hands and piano solo.
